It was pointed out to me by an elderly Scotswoman that this made a neater edge for picking up the border stitches. It seems to work for me.catdownunderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06959328192182156574noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-6525558261988668062016-06-06T19:26:17.712+01:002016-06-06T19:26:17.712+01:00I loved the little loops along the edges when I kn...I loved the little loops along the edges when I knit Gudrun's Hansel very recently for new grandniece, and somehow just prefer the look of the corner-to-corner garter stitch. Does it result in better stretching for wrapping the infant? Not sure. Gudrun does a kind of crossed effect when she picks up her loops, in her Craftsy class demo; like Inge, I chose the open look and was pleased with the effect.
- Beth in OntarioAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-58328055370347589692016-06-06T15:35:14.605+01:002016-06-06T15:35:14.605+01:00About the French crowd's support for Djokovic,...About the French crowd's support for Djokovic, you seem to have answered your own question: he speaks fluent French. I googled him and it seems he lives in Monte Carlo, so perhaps he's considered practically French?Peggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17111736625664327019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-32329078624649125172016-06-06T15:10:38.990+01:002016-06-06T15:10:38.990+01:00My great-grandmother, born in the 1870s in the Far...My great-grandmother, born in the 1870s in the Far North of Scotland, knitted hap shawl centres corner to corner. I can just remember her doing one when I was a 3 year old (for my little brother, I think). That is what made me a life-long lover of knitting - I was so fascinated that where other people knitted pieces "straight up and down" while following a pattern, Nanna was making a diamond shape without a pattern. Of course I didn't realised then just how easy it was. So I suppose it depends on what one considers "traditional".
jennySAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-35259993203721278462016-06-06T11:38:24.193+01:002016-06-06T11:38:24.193+01:00The Hansel pattern includes descriptions of two di...The Hansel pattern includes descriptions of two different methods for knitting the picked up loops.Ingehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17903758922841515578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-36526427287574597742016-06-06T11:35:38.744+01:002016-06-06T11:35:38.744+01:00I have knit several haps using Gudrun's patter...I have knit several haps using Gudrun's patterns and really enjoy the effect you get from knitting the picked up loops in the manner that gives the most open look.Ingehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17903758922841515578noreply@blogger.com
