On the BN Nook I have many of their i expensive Classic editions. I have found that if I read, or at lest skim the introductions to get an idea of the plot line, I am able to understand and follow better. Somehow I missed most, even Jane Austen. Now she's a favorite.Lindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17805947369173144360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-40315000193333483542019-06-18T18:37:39.891+01:002019-06-18T18:37:39.891+01:00Thanks for the reminder about the new Jackson Brod...Thanks for the reminder about the new Jackson Brodie. I realize now that it's been so long that I'll need to do some rereading of the previous ones.
Kimchi: of course, the original point in general was to preserve what you have in (over)abundance. Perhaps the point of using mu/daikon in kimchi was to make more appealing a rather bland vegetable?Peggyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17111736625664327019noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-40927508480877758582019-06-18T11:01:03.412+01:002019-06-18T11:01:03.412+01:00Sounds like you were a excellent teacher, Shandy. ...Sounds like you were a excellent teacher, Shandy.
ChloeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-90434952589743482942019-06-18T03:37:18.592+01:002019-06-18T03:37:18.592+01:00OOps! But "Silas Marner" starts in that manner, setting the story back in time to the days of spinning wheels and hand-loom weavers. It does have its failures - Nancy Lammeter is a bit of a wet blanket - but there is a very dramatic section where the better of the two brothers leaves the ball to accompany his uncle when a report comes in of a woman found dead in the snow - this is the mother of his child, hopelessly drug-addicted.

I did try "The Three Clerks" but gave up. I fared better with "Can You Forgive Her?" but have returned to Mrs Gaskell for the moment.shandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17372329387935318023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8466385.post-90482829020873070732019-06-17T22:26:35.734+01:002019-06-17T22:26:35.734+01:00If you want mild radishes in your kimchi, but don&#...If you want mild radishes in your kimchi, but don't want to pay for daikon, try turnips, the white ones.
