There were four entries in the "Knitted toy" class, including an excellent Womble which should have given the judges pause. But Sam won. Not only that: he also won the Glenisla Shield for the best entry in all the handicraft sections. I scarcely knew there was such a thing, and certainly never aspired to it. But here it is, preposterously, on the dresser in the dining room.
There will be a picture of me receiving it in next week's Blairgowrie Advertiser -- wearing, of course, my Dolores sweatshirt, "Sheep happens".
So that's what happens when you have Franklin on your side (comment, last Thursday).
Full details and many pictures to follow.
Well done and a worthy winner, though I think all your past entries also deserve their place on the Shield of Honour.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Jean! What wonderful news. I've been hoping that Sam would win!
ReplyDeleteFantastic news and it proves that at last the judges appreciate quality work

Grand news, and totally deserved! Not by default either. Though, having seen the pictures as he took shape, it would have taken something amazing to outdo him.
ReplyDeleteWell done. He is one fantastic tup!!
ReplyDeleteOh, congratulations, Jean - and Sam!
ReplyDeleteExtra exciting, given that my brother used to live in Blairgowrie - just outside Melbourne (Australia).
Now, how to top that next year... :)
Jean, this is right up there with the winning of the World Cup lo those many years ago! Well done!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your well-deserved victory! :)
ReplyDeletecongrats and well done!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Jean and Sam.
ReplyDeleteI hope your family gave enthusiastic vocal support, as you received your honour.
They would have been crazy not to give it a prize...but then sometimes they are crazy, as with Polly's baby sweater which was ignored. Well done.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to read this entry! Personally, I believe the recognition is past due! Congratulations! Can't wait to see your photos of the games.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Sam totally deserved to win and I'm glad he did.
ReplyDeleteGood job on winning! On our trip to Scotland, my husband and I did stop at Blairgowrie on our way to Glen Isla where I went horseback riding. It's so great to read of a place and actually know where it is!
ReplyDeleteCongragulations, again, on the win.
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWell done Jean, great to hear the wonderful guy won.
ReplyDeleteNow, will we see more Princess soon?

A well-deserved win -- and they (probably) didn't know of the helpful commentary you'd written to accompany the project. It has slowly dawned on me that even experienced knitters sometimes have problems with patterns; the difference is that where I sit and wail inwardly, the experienced knitter finds a way around the situation. I'm learning, and you're one of the people I'm learning from :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Jean! Well-deserved praise for a terrific knitting effort.
