I am sorry to have left you in suspense for so long.
I went to the dr on Thursday. He says I have a chest infection and has prescribed a course of antibiotics. The chest immediately, as if in response, got worse. I spent the rest of Thursday wrapped in a blanket in my wing chair, and the subsequent days in bed. I am up and dressed today because Men are here to lay the kitchen floor. I am halfway through the course of antibiotics, and clearly the Miracle Drug is not acting as such in this case.
Meanwhile, of course, life moves on:
a) Grandson Joe phoned on Saturday to tell me that he is engaged. His long-term candidate Becca is a thoroughly good choice, and he sounded rather pleased with himself.
b) The next great-granddaughter is due any moment now. (Daughter of Joe's brother Thomas and his wife Lucy). The shawl is ready, as you know.
c) My sister is here in GB, and on her way northwards at this very moment.
I'll try to keep you posted.
So sorry you're so unwell. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon. Glad to hear your sis will soon be there to Take Things In Hand.
ReplyDelete& very pleased to hear about Joe. Another wedding shawl?
Beverly in NJ.
Oh good, your sister will make sure you follow up if Chloethis particular medicine doesn't work for you.
ReplyDeleteHappy to see you back and I hope the drugs take effect very soon!
ReplyDeleteSo much exciting news. Sorry about infection - if antibiotics are not making you feel any better then you could contact doc in case they want to prescribe a different one - as we all know, first choice of drug does not always work for all infections. Very best wishes

Thanks for the update. I have noticed that antibiotics sometimes make me feel worse at first and eventually do their job; hoping that is the case for you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are able to respond. I wonder whether the dust of construction (or perhaps construction glue smells?) has anything to do with the chest infection. Antibiotics also kill off the good intestinal flora which have so much to do with how you feel, so perhaps your sister could get some probiotics supplements for you. Live yogurt, and so on.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all for all the good news!
Thanks for the posting - I hope you start to feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteLisaRR
So pleased to hear all of your exciting news, but sorry to hear that you're not up-to-speed. I hope you feel better really soon, Stella x
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear from you. I hope you soon feel better. So much excitement and good news about your family and the kitchen progress!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm so sorry you're ill, dear Jean. Prayers for speedy recovery. I hope the floor goes in without a hitch.
ReplyDeleteI posted some of my current (too many) knitting projects in my latest blog post. I watch Skeindeer Knits and she shared about how she uses Ravelry (an older episode) so I got inspired to shore up my Ravelry doings.
Take good care. Rest and drink tea. Stay warm. I can't wait to see your finished kitchen.
Plenty of sleep and a visit from your sister the doctor sounds like a good solution. I echo Tamar's reminder of probiototics and live yogurt to help the good flora. Good family news all around. (I was going to wait until today before I started pestering you with email to make sure you were ok.)
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting with an update, Jean. I'm sorry you have such a nasty chest infection. Hopefully the prescribed antibiotics start working soon. If not, it might be that you need to switch to a different antibiotic. It's nice you'll have soon your sister there to look after you, although I'm sure that wasn't what you originally intended for her visit. Take care!
ReplyDeleteAdding my wishes for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteIn Microbiology, they taught us that it takes 5 days (of a typical 10 day course of antibiotics) for the bacteria to become "seriously ill" themselves. It takes the entire course to kill the bacteria, which is why people are urged to take ALL their medication. I am very hopeful that you will triumph over the little rascals!
ReplyDeleteIt is a relief to know that, bad as it is, your silence wasn't due to something worse. Antibiotics are a gruelling thing of themselves, so be very kind to yourself! Your valiant efforts to keep active, and walking, will be standing you in good stead at the moment.
ReplyDeleteAll my very best wishes.
Hope the miracle drugs work soon. Sometimes it takes longer than we expect. hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI was glad to hear (read) your voice and join others in wishing you well as the antibiotics do their thing. Find something nice to listen to on radio or laptop, ask the cats to come snuggle and chillax.
ReplyDeleteIt was a surprise - one minute there you were, firing on all cylinders mentally, if not physically, and then silence.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder whether you might not be anaemic, since that can manifest itself as general weakness.
I hope that the medication has worked by now. Stay warm.
Dear Jean,
ReplyDeleteThis may explain why you have been feeling less energetic physically. You say it is a chest infection. Pneumonia? This can be so tiring as can any infection.
Thank you for letting us know the cause of your silence....we have missed your wonderful voice.
Please be well. As the others have said, your sister will take things in hand and at the end of the prescribed course of treatment you will be much better.
Thank you for posting Jean, it's good to hear from you. I am happy for your family members. Hopefully you'll back in shape real soon so we can photos of your new kitchen.
ReplyDeleteBTW, if you are not up to blogging for a few more days, then don't. Perhaps do a brief check with us in a few days. Rest.
DeleteTake care - Perdite and Paradox should be waiting on you, paw and paw!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting, I was genuinely concerned. Congrats on the engagement and hoping for a healthy baby soon.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear you are feeling poorly. I pray you have a speedy and complete recovery! I do get concerned when you are absent for a bit. I so enjoy your blog and your pictures when you post them. Congratulations on the engagement, I wish them health and happiness.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to hear from you ~ even if all the news isn’t good! I’ve always felt that antibiotics make your body fight off the infection but at some cost, in the short term, as you have no energy left for anything else! Hoping you start to feel better soon and can enjoy seeing your sister.
ReplyDeleteLynne Litchfield.
I hope the antibiotic kicks in soon. Glad your sister is on her way. My sisters are such good support for me.
ReplyDeleteEchoing all the good wishes - hope your recovery is speedy, Jean. A sister visit is good at any time.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. Hope to hear better news soon.
ReplyDeleteTake good care! chest infections can feel so debilitating. Cheering you on!
ReplyDeletebest,
Nancy
Hope you are beginning to mend, what with the antibiotic, a sister and 2 cats to look after you - not to mention all of your faithful "Fans" who have you in their positive thoughts!
ReplyDeleteoh Jean, hoping to hear good news and know that you are on the mend soon!
ReplyDeleteI do hope you are feeling better, if not I hope that you will be feeling better and be up and around soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well and you are enjoying your family. Bev
ReplyDeleteAdding my concern. Hope you are just laid low and it’s nothing more serious. If a family member would post an update even in the comments I know we would all be grateful.
ReplyDeleteAm missing you terribly & am concerned for your health... am expecting you to be a bit better, but if not please return to the doctor - many germs are resistant to some anti-biotics. looking forward to you getting back your zippidty-do-dah.
ReplyDeletepgnitter
Antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections. If your respiratory issue is viral all you can do is treat the symptoms. Drink plenty of fluids, get lots of rest and feel better soon.
