My appetite hit rock-bottom on Sunday evening. I sent a dear friend out yesterday for easy-eats: bananas and fruit yoghurt and one of those supplement things that you stir into milk. It has helped a bit. Dehydration? I am trying really hard to drink water.


So this is just to report that I am alive, although not particularly well. I look forward to knitting a bit while Arne and Carlos tell me all about Settesdal. Not yet, though.

  1. Water is so boring. I make cold tea by putting a teabag for white or green tea in cold water (pint jug or similar) overnight. Has a pleasant (in my opinion!) refreshing taste. Or drink squash. Or 'drinking yoghurt' if you are not eating much. Iced coffee? Strawberries? Or even fill the freezer with mini magnums! Worry about a proper diet later! It's just toooooo hot!

    Kefir (a kind of drinking yogurt) is rather nice. How is your sense of smell? That can be related to appetite. Is there a counselor you could talk to? A nutritionist?

  6. Glad to hear from you, Jean, and hope this low time is over soon. Does your GP's office include a dietitian? They can be so helpful with suggestions. I'm several decades and an ocean away from working in the NHS, so not sure how things work these days.

  7. Definitely lots of liquids in this heat - clear soup, Earl Grey tea, dilute squash. Fill a jug and drink a glass every hour. Hope you feel better soon.

  9. I find if I add a splash of fruit juice to the water, the water becomes refreshing. I don’t like commercial fruit flavoured water as it tastes chemically to me. Only real fruit juice will do.

    Maybe try drinking through a straw? A little more fun, reminiscent of cokes and ice cream sodas and thus, hopefully, more inviting. They have enviriomentally-friendly metal and paper ones if that is a concern. Chloe

  12. I echo these messages, but was a bit puzzled when people mentioned drinking squash, even diluted! then realized it was a US/UK thing and no one suggested a bit of watered down butternut or acorn!
