Not much to report. The hat seems slow, but we’re getting there:

The ribbing is folded up, in that picture. I think I'll put it back on dp's and try it on again today.

Christmas

The word from Loch Fyne is that every household coming for Christmas must bring one ornament for the tree. I’ve been over at Ravelry looking at knitted ornaments. There are some distinct possibles. If one went in for that sort of thing, a leaflet by Alan Dart called “Advent Tree” from Simply Knitting is clearly chock-a-block with delicious miniatures. I’ve found a pattern, too, for a miniature sweater – I wouldn’t have to twist wire to make a hanger for it, I could just construct a loop of some sort.. And I gather there’s a miniature hat in the very book (Hats On) that I’m knitting from at the moment.

So we shall see.

  1. Cafe Press has some nice (and tasteful) Obama ornaments; we got ourselves one that says "Thank you, Santa, but I got what I wanted November 4th" and one for Theo/Tiger that says "Yes, we did". Could you get one in time?

  2. I'm so far behind on post reading that I'll just have to draw the line in the sand when I come back. In the meantime, I hope that your Christmas festivities go well and aren't exhausting - or at least if they are they're well worth the exhaustion.

Enjoy! and I'll 'see' you in January.

Try tiny (24 st.) socks--which can look festive filled with wrapped bonbons!

Even a newborn-size sock can be a tree ornament, and it does not take very long to complete (and can use up some sock yarn leftovers)
One could tie a ribbon on it ...
I have been tempted to try the mini-sweaters myself, but haven't tried it yet.

  5. I myself have been knitting teeny mittens for the nieces and nephews -- I give them an ornament every year so when they have their own trees they will already have a little collection. I'm using sock yarn scraps and connecting the pairs with a crochet chain. I can knock out a pair in an evening.

Oh, but making the little hangers is SO much fun!

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

I have the Advent ornaments books and I'm very tempted..... obviously it's too late for this year. Maybe if I did an ornament or two a month for 2009?

  8. Jean, I just queued this pattern on Ravelry...and it's free, which is even better.

  9. If you gift bottles of wine, I saw a super cute presentation of a tiny little hat on top and then an i-cord scarf around the neck of the bottle. ( here's the link) They were selling them for $10, but any knitter w/ a stash could make them virtually for free.
