I continue to mend, I think. I did a tiny bit of knitting today, and walked around the house with Daniela. I hope I’ll be more adventurous tomorrow.

Kate Davies and her husband Tom are taking a few days off the “Allover” club because they are in mourning for their dear dog Bruce. It’s a tough time of year for mourning, with all this darkness.

Eileen, thank you for the reference to the New Statesman article about where-are-you-from. I read it with interest. I think I had better emulate the Palace and keep silent.

Wordle: we were split by sex today. The ladies all scored three. The gents were strung out between Thomas and Roger, with five, and Theo’s brilliant two.

    Dear Jean,
The discussion around "Where are you from" does point to micro aggressions which seem harmless if you are white in America, but to those who are non white can feel intrusive and insensitive. We have two daughters both born in Korea, who came to us as infants. Neither have any memory of their brief time in the land of their birth. Both they and I have been subjected to questions, some of which were deeply offensive, such as a total stranger asking me in the grocery store; "how much did you pay for her." Years later, in a taxi on the way home from the airport with my fully grown daughter, the taxi driver commented on how well she spoke English, even after he knew she grew up here. Mostly we answer their questions easily with "they were born in Korea, adopted and have grown up fully as Americans." This seems to satisfy most questioners. If the question is particularly obnoxious, I reply by saying, " And why do you wish to know?" This usually is met with a stammered sorry, as they realize it is really not their business to be so nosy. Mostly people are curious. I am usually offended by people who wish to know if we have any children of our "own" when our daughters are clearly our own. We do think these questions come from ignorance and try to enlighten the person asking the question.
Sorry to have gone on about this. It is quite personal. But I must say, both daughters are successful young women with children themselves. Both have been to Korea, with me and are well aware of the culture and history of this beautiful place.

Good going, both knitting and walking a bit.
it's been sunny and cold here in MD instead of the expected rain, which pleased me because a dear friend drove down for a visit.

You would be better occupied in restricting your blog to knitting and Wordle , your elitist attitudes are deeply offensive

As a person of colour, who found Susan Hussey's behaviour deeply rude and insensitive, I find your comment even more so.
