Home again.
All these years – Paradox will be three in August – I have
thought that all I had to do was get her to Strathardle when she was in heat,
and she (and I) would have our longed-for box of kittens. Her heats are not frequent. My only fear was that
she would elope with Young Lochinvar. Not so. She spent the entire time walking
up and down the garden calling for love. There were no takers. No wonder
kittens are so expensive.
If gentleman cats are so infrequent, maybe she and Perdita
are full sisters.
Yesterday – it seems more distant – an old friend came by,
and we sat in the garden drinking tea and catching up on Kirkmichael news. There’s
nothing like a village for news. Then the right-hand legs of my chair suddenly
sank into the turf – had a cat jumped on my lap? – and I slid gracefully down
to the ground. No harm done. But on the way down, I collided with another, sturdy
chair. I think I have bruised, or even cracked, a rib or two. I have been in
quite a lot of discomfort since.
I got a lot of knitting done. Why should I have so much more
time there than here? I finished Clue Three of the Stillness Shawl MKAL
yesterday (clues are issued on Thursdays). The second sleeve of the EPS sweater
is very nearly done.
I think I am getting better, although sneezing, coughing and
belching are still quite painful. Archie is here, and will sleep in the spare
room again tomorrow night. He is a considerable comfort. Getting in and out of
bed is tough. I slept sitting up in the wing chair last night.
I will suspend blog-writing until I am a bit more comfortable.
It shouldn’t be long. Love to you all.
Oh dear Jean - you don't deserve this difficulty! Sending sympathy and healing thoughts. Hurray for Archie - what an excellent man he is turning out to be.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I hope you are feeling better soon. What an odd incident. And so wonderful to have family close by who step in to help. It's better to have too few cats than too few homes for them, though that will be no consolation to Paradox.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of this mishap to your ribs, so great to have Archie. Hoping for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteYou are back - hooray. Sorry you are hurting. Get well soon!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a speedy recovery and a return to good health soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your 'hello' Jean, take care and look forward to your news once you're more comfortabel.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. Sorry for the pain. Glad you got lots of knitting done. I'm taking my time with Clue 3 as it seems very easy and brief. I'm liking how this shawl looks more all the time; how about you?
ReplyDeleteGet well soon! Good thoughts from across the pond.
ReplyDeleteOh Jean, I hope things start feeling better soon. It's good that you have Archie with you, he's growing into a fine young man.
ReplyDeleteSarah.
The Senior Cat (aka as my father) sends his sincere sympathy. He cracked a rib at the end of last year and (then 96) ended up in hospital. My sympathy too - every breath hurts!
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon! Working on clue 3.

Take care, Jean, and get well soon.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the rib(s), hope you don't have to sneeze/cough/hiccup (or laugh!) anytime soon. Glad you can still knit though.
ReplyDeleteHope you get well soon! Many thoughts from across the seas.
ReplyDeleteMore healing thoughts from across the pond. So sorry you had this accident, but rest and time will help. Looking forward to hearing that you are better.
ReplyDeleteWishing you improved health and comfort soon.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I'm so sorry to hear this! I know how painful rib injuries can be. I hope you will be able to get good rest.
ReplyDeleteEchoing the wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! Getting back from Strathardle in the car must have been an ordeal with this injury. I hope that you are still able to take at least some short walks - around the house, say, - as being immobilised will not be good.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear you are stiff and achy... hope you are feeling better soon. Prayers for you and Archie. If it lasts more than three days, rub some VICKS vapo-rub on it to draw out the nasties. Be well
ReplyDeleteMissed your posts. Hope you feel better soon. I'm also almost done with Clue 3. I had a lot of catching up to do.
ReplyDeleteSending sympathies and healing thoughts for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and hoping the pain has eased and you are healing.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you are on the mend, and ARchie and the cats are taking care of you.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing from you.
ReplyDeleteI keep hoping you are well enough to post. Missing you & wishing a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteMaybe all the boy cats near Strathardle have been neutered?

Sending best wishes. If Archie sets up a vpn you can see that routledge episode. Maybe that will help take your mind of the pain. But dare I suggest a doctor visit?
ReplyDeleteJust saw this. Oh dear. I only got some bruises and was uncomfortable for a long time. Perhaps a doctor could do what I've read about as 'taping' the ribs - theoretically that helps?
