Virtually no knitting, but a good day. I’m feeling better. Archie came, and we got a bit done, and had a substantial, nourishing lunch which is always good. Fresh tuna and black beans.

I’m pressing on with “Unsheltered” although still not entirely convinced. It turns out to be more historically-based than I grasped at first. It’s set in a real 19th century utopian housing development in southern New Jersey called Vineland. Our hero’s next-door-neighbour in the old days, Mary Treat, is a real self-taught botanist of distinction, a friend of Darwin’s. The Vineland Historical Society, which our modern-day heroine visits, really has the Treat archives.

Neither knitting nor reading

My flannel nightgowns need replacing. One is beyond use. I have been sleeping in my petticoat this week, while the other one was in the wash. Now I have bought myself some flannel pyjamas from Toast:

which will give a whole new meaning to the concept of going to bed. There is no reason not to revert to pyjamas in my solitary and celibate old age.

And here is a picture of Perdita on top of the glass-fronted bookcase:

  1. Love the pajamas, they can double as lounging attire. I enjoy a good pajama day for knitting and reading.

  3. Wise choice, the pajamas! They look cozy and comfortable! Take Care! Just love your cats!

  4. Good Lord, Jean, those are some pyjamas! Are you sure they are not meant as party wear? I, meanwhile, rejoiced to discover a shop in Sheringham which stocked exactly the sort of nightwear I favour - cotton jersey and with long sleeves - like hens' teeth elsewhere.

  5. Love the PJs! I went to college near Vineland and spent the early years of my marriage (1970s) there. I live in Colorado now and summers are hot and winters are cold so night wear is critical! Comfort above all else!

  6. Very festive jammies! I had no idea, Jersey girl that I am, that Vineland was a Utopian community. I only knew of it for the Vineland Training School for the developmentally disabled.

I found parts of Unsheltered enjoyable, and parts not really believable. I do love the idea of the woman lying on the ground watching ants!

  8. I have a climbing cat too. Mine goes up to the counter, up to the refrigerator top, and then up to the top of the highest cabinet. I'd love to hear about Perdita's route.
