After I wrote to you yesterday, I went to YouTube and looked up Eartha Kitt. Wow! She cuts across 70 years like a knife through butter. What a voice! What a woman! I suppose I should add, What a song! Go to YouTube and ask for Eartha Kitt Monotonous – for that is the song with Sherman Billingsley in it.

I felt a bit better today, and Helen got me around the garden once. The ribs are still uncomfortable. Archie is coming tomorrow – we have many piles of paper to sort through and may or may not attempt the garden.

I haven’t done any knitting today. I read some “Suitable Boy”. I would have been willing to buy a Kindle copy, for the sake of easy handling, but there doesn’t seem to be one. It takes two hands to hold the book open – not very good for either knitting or eating.

Blogger has got a new setup. It will take me a while to learn to cope with it. Why do people keep doing this?

  2. I wonder why "if it's not broke don't fix it" has never caught on in the tech world.

They think they are improving things. I've seen "improvements" rolled back to the way they were in the past; complaints seem to help, sometimes, if enough people complain. My favorite theory is that it's the same group of programmers, moving from one company to another, getting fired for making stupid changes, and moving on.

  4. Even the Senior Cat (whose tastes in music are not generally of that kind) thought Eartha Kitt had a wonderful voice.
And you are so right about Blogger. I do wish they would work on the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" principle!

  5. Earth a Kitt is fab! Santa Baby is one of my favorites. I did purchase a Kindle copy of A Suitable Boy by using a U.K. address. I couldn’t face the giant volume.

I worked with some techies in the fledgling world of computers back in the '60s. They did not seem to care if it was broke. They loved fixing it! I remember Eartha Kitt slithering around in her chair on the Tonight Show while singing C'est Si Bon. She was one of a kind. Chloe

  7. I saw Eartha Kitt perform once at my college, as her daughter was in the same class as me. However, I have to say I've heard 'Santa Baby' enough times to last me the rest of my life. About A Suitable Boy. I'm glad I read it while I was younger and stronger. I tried reading Ducks, Newburyport, but it's too heavy!
