A brief touching-of-base to let you know that we're here and more or less all right. My husband isn't well – a mump-like swelling on his jaw, uncomfortable and debilitating. A dr came yesterday (it's disconcerting when they're suddenly the age of your grandchildren – he could have been Thomas-the-Elder). He thinks it's an infected salivary gland (some gland, anyway) and has prescribed a fairly stiff antibiotic. We'll see today whether there's any progress.

Meanwhile much bad tamper and little knitting.

So I failed to meet my seven-a-day target for the scallops on the Unst Bridal Shawl edging. I did reach the half-way point on the second side. That's something.

  1. Ouch, hope your husband feels better soon and that the shawl continues along its progress

I hope the antibiotic is effective. Dealing with bad temper is always tough but really difficult on top of anxiety about a health issue. Hopefully both resolve soon.

I'm so impressed that a doctor comes to your house. House calls are unknown here. Hope normalcy is soon restored!

  5. Best wishes to you both, to your husband a speedy recovery and to you relief from the stress of his illness

  6. I've had that. It was worst when one had eaten, and would ache. It went as quickly as it came, however. Chin up, Jean: the days are getting longer.

  7. I hope your husband has a quick recovery. My comment is identical to Ruth's above. I'm very impressed a doctor would make a house call. Those are a relic of history in Canada.

  8. I do hope his recovery is quick. I wanted to add also a house call is unheard of here in michigan. What a luxury.

  9. Doctors don't make house calls here either. Thinking of you both.

  10. Yes they do, Catdownunder. It's Home Visiting Doctor, 1300 372 968. They came to us one Sunday when DH had a vomiting migraine, gave him a shot of Maxolon and some advice for follow up. You can also ring 24 Hour Nurse who will refer you to a doctor or advise emergency treatment if needed

Hope your husband improves, Jean, my young son had that a while ago, uncomfortable, would a warm compress ease the pain?

Jannette, of Jannette's Rare Yarns, occasionally blogs about having one of those swollen salivary gland episodes. She sucks on a lemon, and it immediately drains! If you have a lemon in the house, your husband might try it.

  13. Jean, you must check out the new Panopticon. It will have you chuckling and perhaps hysterical with laughter. If I can get them, you can get the Yo, Mamas at the end!
