Howzzat!!!

She was born in the early hours of Friday the 13th. “On her due date,” I have been told. She is to be named Camilla.

I’m not feeling much, if any, better. I am being urged by family to go back to see a dr sooner rather than later. I am scheduled to go in later next week for “bloods” and then to see a dr in the week following. I could go in and see someone on Monday, but what’s the use? Antibiotics clearly aren’t working. I don’t want to go to hospital. What else does modern medicine have to offer?

I have scarcely knit a stitch in the last fortnight.

Andrew and Andrea have posted another excellent effort – an interview with the remarkable women, Mica and Jo, who organise the Edinburgh Yarn Festival, and another with Kate Atherley who can tell you how to knit socks that fit.

And there’s a new VK.

My sister has been and gone. Indeed, must be suspended somewhere above the North Atlantic at the moment. It was an odd visit, consisting mostly of her cooking Mindful Chef offerings for our suppers, but she says she had a nice time.

  1. Please do go back to the doctor.

  2. A different antibiotic may be what you need - the Dr really ought to be told that his first prescripion hasn't done the trick, and if you don't tell him, how can he help you?

  3. Please go to the doctor's on Monday.

I echo the previous commenters. they are talking good sense. Your Dr needs to know the first antibiotic did not clear the chest infection. Please do go on Monday.

On a happier note, welcome to Camilla!

    Please take care of yourself.

  5. Beautiful baby Camilla!

  6. You need to go back to the doctor. The antibiotics should have kicked in by now. Better to go back sooner than have an extended stay in hospital later. I know - unwanted advice from afar but we worry about you!

  7. Does your health system have something like what we call urgent care-basically a cheaper emergency room. You would see a doctor rather quickly, explain the situation, and he/she would give you a different prescription. Better yet is a telephone health line. Works the same except you can call from home and get everything done. Waiting weeks with an untreated infection is not a good idea, as I’m sure you already know. We need you. Please treat yourself well!

  8. Antibiotics can be very specific in the bugs they treat. You should be asking for something different. It shouldn't take much more than a couple days for them to kick in and you to feel better.

  9. Another voice in the unsolicited advice chorus....get back to the doctor, ASAP! Your loyal following does not want to read that you are in hospital with pneumonia, or some other Nasty, and who would look after P and P? And welcome to Camilla! You must get healthy and strong so that you can get your arms around that sweet thing.

  10. So glad to hear of Camilla's safe arrival.
And I agree you need another visit to the dr. Please take care of yourself!

  11. Or at least a telephone call to the doctor's office to tell them to tell him that you are no better.

    We do worry, you know.

  12. Your family is right to urge you to go sooner rather than later. If you don't you might run the risk of ending up in hospital. Better be safe than sorry!

Congrats on Camilla! I'm glad your sister was there for awhile to see to meals. Please go to the doctor on Monday. Have you anyone to go with you?

  14. Echo eveyone else’s comments. I needed two different antibiotics earlier this year. Second one was much more specific to the infection and I needed the maximum dose that can be given at home. Baby is lovely and glad she has arrived safely.

Doctor, doctor, doctor. Phone call first, if it's easier to break the ice that way. Calling a doctor for oneself is always hard, in my opinion. We can do it easily for others, Not so easy for ourselves. Lovely photo with Camilla. Chloe

Congrats to Camilla's parents and grands.
So sorry to hear you sounding so depressed and ill. Hard to think of all the energy expenditure of calling, washing up and dressing to GET YOURSELF BACK TO THE DOCTOR! Do it anyway or get your self some family or friend help!

What they said. I don't want you to have to go into the hospital either, at least partly because it's another risk factor, but the doctor needs to know so you can be switched to another treatment. (I'm still wondering about the materials used in the new construction, too. Outgassing can cause problems.)
And hooray for Camilla! My father was born on Friday 13th, so I have a fondness for those days.

  20. Please see the doctor, you clearly need another type of antibiotic, Its easy when you are feeling poorly to feel that nothing is working. Please see the doctor.

  21. If it's a viral infection, then of course antibiotics are of no use, unless a secondary bacterial infection has set in. There are breathing treatments than the doctor might recommend which might help clear up whatever is going on in your lungs. Hope you begin to turn the corner and feel better soon.

I want to add to the chorus. If you're still feeling low on Monday, call the doc & ask for advice. They might suggest you come in, or they might just call in some new meds. In any case, they'll want to take action; they want you to be well! As do we!

Glad your sis had a nice visit, but sorry you weren't fully up to it.

  24. I'm sorry to hear you are still feeling ill! I do hope good health comes to you soon. I too think you should go back to the doctor, perhaps for new meds. Thank you for posting, I was extremely concerned. I hope the cats have helped to lift your spirits. Prayers for a complete and speedy recovery.

If you don´t feel better today, please call the doctor! Maybe he can come to you? Out German GPs still do that.

  27. Adding my echo to the chorus! You probably are feeling so depleted, you don't have the energy to do something, which means the situation is all the more urgent. I would bet money you are dehydrated and an IV and another antibiotic will do the trick. Please get well - those two great grandchildren of yours are absolutely adorable - don't you want to be well enough to enjoy them?
