2106 steps. A bit dim.

I’ve done 10 scallops (out of 16 ½) of the edging on the third side of Gudrun’s hap – I think. Perdita is curled up on it at the moment, so I can’t be absolutely sure. Four more points for the sidebar, anyway – I’m sure of that.

Gaughan’s travelling stitch book is here, and it’s wonderful. I agree with Chloe, Mary Lou, that it may have been the cotton rather than the travelling stitch that did for your wrists that time. Gaughan makes right-side travelling stiches sound very easy and peaceful. And if you knit in the round (which she mostly doesn’t) everything is right-side. Chloe, yes, I’ve got “Knitting Nature” – and I actually checked today to make sure it is on the shelf where it belongs, and it is. I haven’t looked at it for a long time. Now I will.

Dry January behind me, I’m now trying to reduce cider consumption, a far more difficult exercise. I’m aiming for four dry days a week, and they might as well be Monday-Thursday since those are the days that present themselves this week, and for the moment it’s easy. I’ve got an app on my telephone that lets me paste a virtual sticker on my calendar every day – “dry” or “drink” or “planned”. I might as well be back in nursery school.

I think I am perhaps somewhat more energetic than before – I notice that I haven’t been complaining of weakness here. But I am weak. I have started using a stick to walk about the house with.

Le Carre’s “Perfect Spy” is more than a bit gloomy. It’s his most autobiographical, apparently. I may lay it aside in favour of some of the excellent suggestions you have offered, or some of the things already in my Kindle library such as Willa Cather.

  1. We use a wall-chart calendar and used to put a sticker on each day we went to the gym. Since March last year it has been each day we go for a walk - that's virtually every day, unlike the gym which was intermittent.
If you have been feeling brighter, which you certainly sound to have been, then that has to be a good thing, especially at this time of year.

  2. Agreeing with Shandy - you "sound" brighter and happier in your post since you have been walking and having the dry January. Sincerely hoping that including the cider in your plans doesn't take that away from you.

  3. Yes, you have been sounding much brighter and more energetic. Walking and Cider on the weekend might be the ticket. I expect Chloe you are right about the cotton. I am nearly finished Snow, and don’t suggest you add it to your list Jean. Gloomy.
