 Well here I am.

This place is as comfortable as advertised. The staff is very attentive and very inclined to go the extra mile — or two. I fear it is also true that almost all the residents are too old and infirm to enjoy it. When I first visited my mother at Meadow Lakes in NJ, she was still driving, and enjoying the group outings to the Princeton theatre. Nothing like that here. I don’t thing much will happen tomorrow for those of us disinclined for the service at Cramond Kirk. Things may liven up on Monday.

I’ve cast on Lilias Day and hope to make substantial progress with the ribbing tomorrow. It’s a twisted rib, which slows things down a bit. After that, it’s full steam ahead until the yoke.

  3. I do think that Lilias Day is a beautiful design - and the name is perfect. My uncle went into a nursing-home at death's door with blood-poisoning, but he recovered. The staff were keen that he should join everyone else in the dining-room for meals, but he realised that the others were beyond talking, if not beyond eating. However, the staff will enjoy your company and conversation, I'm sure.

  4. Hoping that your taking advantage of all the PT/OT offered to you will help you regain your strength. Enjoy your vacation and we look forward to see the progress on your new project

My guess is that you will be like the Senior Cat and find more conversation is to be had with the staff than the residents. He was still giving some of the non-English speaking staff English lessons until the last few weeks of his life. The up side of this for him was that they would often stop and ask him something. He preferred to read and do origami to trying to make conversations with residents who showed little or no interest in anything much. Early on in his stay he also did a couple of magic shows for the other residents. I think you are much the same. Here's to much knitting getting done!

Enjoy your time there, I agree with Joni "taking advantage of all the PT/OT offered to you will help you regain your strength". Hope all is well for the kitties...I know they will miss you. Looking forward to seeing your new project.

That's a relief, that the place is as advertised. I hope the food is both good and nourishing. Twisted rib should keep you busy for a while.

So good to hear that the Care Home is comfortable. I'll be interested to hear more as your stay continues. Probably it is nice knowing that eventually you will be returning to your cats and your home.

Are there at least one or two people there who are more interactive? Sometimes one is all you need to chat and laugh with. The staff is probably delighted to have you as someone who actually gives feedback to all their efforts. Chloe

Looking forward to hearing from our special correspondent. Please tell us about the meals - the website makes much of these - and the individually-tailored physio. If you feel there are any mobility issues to address, now is the opportunity. Meanwhile I shall wait patiently for the knitting report.
