I’m sorry, again, to have left you in the lurch. There’s nothing much wrong here except a lack of sprightliness. I have done a bit of knitting, but not enough that it’s worth measuring the Stronachlachar again. Tomorrow, perhaps. My personal trainer is coming back tomorrow and I have warned her that she will have to start again from the beginning.

But guess what? I got a New Yorker in today’s post!

As for British politics, Gilbert got it right, as usual:

When in that House MP’s divide,
If they’ve a brain and cerebellum too,
They’ve got to leave that brain outside
And vote just as their leaders tell ‘em to.

But then the prospect of a lot
Of dull MP’s, in close proximity,
All thinking for themselves, is what
No man can face with equanimity.

And that’s exactly where we are at the moment.

The only knitting news I can think of is that Brooklyn Tweed’s “Winter 19” lookbook is out. Goodness, they’re good. I think I’ve mentioned that they’ll be here at the Edinburgh Yarn Festival again this year. Two years ago, it was Jared himself.

I hope the Duke of Edinburgh is OK. He is a great inspiration to the elderly.

    Glad you are back.

Thanks for sharing the lookbook. I like the Cletus hat and the Watermark cardigan. & the latter shown on a me-sized model!

I'm happy you're back. I feel much more sprightly when I'm warm. You've mentioned 'huddling' in the kitchen - is the rest of your home too cold for real comfort? That's fixable. Even something as minor as putting bubblewrap over the windows can make an astonishing difference.

I like some of Brooklyn Tweed's pattern-stitch designs but the sweaters all seem to be shaped for people who are rectangular. If I made them, I'd have to change the shaping.

  3. Happy that you are back. Hope you're feeling better and glad that the NYer arrived. I never was a fan of the Duke of Edinburgh and watching The Crown has not helped!

    1. I remember his wedding day — listening to the radio before I went off to Asbury Park High school. The commentator said something about...”the duke of Edinburgh turns to his wife...”My mother was a passionate royalist but she didn’t get it, but I did.

  5. What I ask myself, on daily basis, is how does Theresa May keep going? I don't share her politics but you do wonder how much more anyone could take.

    1. I wonder too. Don’t know if it’s her high degree of discipline or if it’s stubborness or something else it’s something else.

  6. Theresa May: Shandy, I agree on both points - not my political preference but how does she do it? Brooklyn Tweed: Marte, the little fingering-weight sleeveless turtleneck top, looks like just what I need in the house on some winter days, over a tshirt - been wearing my Carbeth a lot but sleeves get in the way of wet household tasks. Marte would be good for not-such-cold weather. Glad you're back, Jean.

  7. Unlike you I do not remember the ue's wedding day - I was born three days later. My Mother went to town on the bus to listen to the broadcast relayed to the market square - and got a thorugh telling off from her MiL for going out so near her time.

So glad you are back Jean! Thanks for the Lookbook alert. It's always been interesting to see how Jared combines precision with imagination. Regarding the Duke, despite the obvious luxuries and privilege of royalty, it seems they have to operate under almost inhuman restraint and it's a wonder they don't 'bust out' more often and drive race cars till they are 100. (Hopefully on a track for the sake of public safety.) Chloe
