I have very little to report. The Spring Shawl is a few rows forrad’er – the rows are longer now; progress is seemingly slower. The effect remains like having a box of chocolates in the house. The attraction lies somewhere in the way each row makes its unique contribution, however slight the progress. Another picture soon.

Perdita seems a bit less subdued today, but continues to confine herself to quarters. She is trying to sit on my computer keyboard, and taking it amiss when I try to suggest otherwise. She is a very disagreeable cat. That’s why I love her.

Inspector Montalbano is back on British television tonight. I doubt if I’ll be able to knit lace while watching him.

  1. I must remember to see if I can find Inspector Montalbano here in the US. I have to say, I agree about the books not being compelling, so I'd like to give the show a go.

  2. Your Perdita sounds much like my Penny. Started out life as a feral cat and was deposited with us who knows how, LOL:) but we love her without question, despite her biting the many hands who feed her.

Awww Perdita, she sounds like my beloved Claire. She runs the house...2 humans, 2 dogs and "the other cat". A feral I rescued..she meowed at me while she walked by as I was knitting. Being polite I meowed back..she looked at me like "What?! you speak my language!" and jumped into the middle of the knitting I had on my lap and proceeded to curl up for a nap, nipping me when I tried to remove her claw from my hand-spun alpaca. One ear has some of it missing, the other shows damage from something with teeth, her tail was broken and I fell in love with her and her attitude right then and there... she continues to think my knitting is her bed and she has trained me very well.

  5. dont know if you saw my comment on previous posts. often with two or more cats they become territorial and want their own space. it seems that is what Perdita is doing. its great that you have a large enough dwelling that they can have different areas.

i had suggested separating their food and litter boxes so they are in separate areas (territories).. i have had at least two cats for years (different pairs) with my current two who are step sister/brother, since i moved things have changed and they have decided they want their won litter boxes in very different spaces. i had always fed them in different areas (bec the larger one would eat all the food) so the smaller one can jump up and she eats on a counter (on a tray) and the larger male has his tray in a special spot in the pantry. and a new litter box for the smaller female at the other end of the apt. Emil the male sometimes uses it but he prefers the original box brought from the other apt. its been an evolving thing . at first they used the same box (the other apt was too small to have two) but after awhile Emil let me know he didnt like this and after trying a few kinds found one that they both like.

i did a lot (hours) of research on the web and read many many many posts and comments about different things that worked for different people. i tried a combo of them and it continues.

you asked about a cat whisperer? yes there are cat behaviourists. they help with figuring out what the cat is trying to tell you by their behaviour - its about us adapting to the cats, not vice versa as all of us owned by cats know. sometimes it helps to get an outside objective opinion and advice.

    hang in there...

    1. I meant to write about cats this evening, but forgot. The odd thing about mine is that they are half-sisters with, therefore, very similar backgrounds, and yet so different. We have had a fairly peaceful day.
