Helen and Archie and poor Perdita have gone off to the vet. I wasn’t expected to be of the party. Poor Paradox is most touchingly and most unexpectedly anxious. When they are here together they are largely indifferent to each other. When they do interact, Paradox is a bully and Perdita hisses. But at the moment Paradox is walking anxiously from room to room, meowing. And occasionally coming to ask me, why aren’t you worried?

I felt flattened today. It was bath day, anyway, not one for walking. I feel better now.

Manaba phoned, to tell me that it was all right to use wee Hamish’s picture, and to tell me that he -- Hamish -- is to be a big brother in the summer. Goodness! Knitting!

Later: Perdita is safely home. Her difficulties are said to be due to stress, and I've got to get one of those things you plug in to relieve it (for cats). I used to have one, and am sceptical.

  1. How touching that the "stayed home" cat is missing her "other one". Cats are fascinating creatures.

More knitting! I think a wee blankie might be appropriate for a summer baby. Garments will be outgrown in a month, though a bonnet might be sweet.

  5. Echoing Tamar's suggestion of a baby blanket (called a roshy in my husband's family for no reason that I can understand). Can you combine the baby blanket with this year's Calcutta Cup?

I have never found those things to work for cats. Have five cats and two have never gotten along and we tried Feliway but nothing. Just a lot of money dow the drain. Maybe your vet can prescribe an anti anxiety ed for her.

  7. Another baby to knit for! It'll be fun sharing your deliberations on just what you'll create.

  9. Wonderful photo! When we had dogs, the one returning from the vet was always subjected to a close inspection and some bullying from the one who had stayed home. Hope Perdita was left in peace upon her return!

How nice to see cutie Hamish at the top. He looks very pleased with his vest, too.

Re diffusers for cats, I've had good success. My cat pulls his fur out (because a cat's life is so hard, lol). He's on Prozac, but I've noticed more tufts of fur when the diffuser is empty. Of course, all cats are different.

And congratulations on another new baby in the family!

We have had good results with diffusers for stressed cats (and indeed dogs). There are more sophisticated options available now so it might be worth reading it and choosing the one which seems most suitable for Perdita's situation.

Apart from the pheremone options there is Pet Remedy which uses Valerian herbal extract. My mother swore by this one for her competitive sibling Abyssinians. She also thought it was good for my elderly father who acted much more stressed when she stopped having the Pet Remedy available (because the cats had died of old age).

Perhaps Archie and or Helen would like to do some research, since they seem to have initiated the vet visit?

Anyway, good luck with it and how lovely to have all these new lives to knit for.
